Weaving Moss 1 & 2
Two scarves, handwoven on an 8-shaft loom with 33/4 naturally dyed linen, explore weaving as relational research and historical inquiry. Weaving Moss 1 uses plain weave, while Weaving Moss 2 draws on a two-block twill pattern associated with colonial American coverlets. While weaving, I listened to Robin Wall Kimmerer’s Gathering Moss and The Serviceberry, attuning the work to reciprocity, ecology, and care. Through feminist-materialist and decolonial lenses, this studio-based practice foregrounds marginalized histories of women’s textile labor while challenging colonial archival narratives.
