Okra
There’s a place in the sky for those bones in the ocean
And a place called Africa. Which is not, by the way, a country.
And jumping overboard is the full measure of freedom
And we grow rice for three-thousand years
And an Afro this and Colored that and a “Negro please!”
South is wherever we been and wherever we go
And a dam is a damn and a bunch of seed spilled
All over this beautiful place
Is us.
